The 2026 IRPF State Scale

Spanish income tax is split in two halves. The state half uses one scale for the whole country; the other half depends on where you live on 31 December.

Taxable base fromUp toState rate
first€12,4509.5%
over €12,450€20,20012%
over €20,200€35,20015%
over €35,200€60,00018.5%
over €60,000€300,00022.5%
over €300,000no limit24.5%

The personal minimum is not a deduction from income. Instead the scale is run twice: once on the whole base and once on the €5,550 minimum, and the second result is subtracted. In practice the first €5,550 is relieved at the lowest rate.

Pagas Extra: 12 or 14 Payments

The Workers' Statute gives two extra payments a year, one at Christmas and one in the month set by the collective agreement, often June or July. The yearly gross and the yearly net do not change; only the size of each payment does.

  • 14 payments on €28,000: €2,000 gross and about €1,578.70 net each.
  • 12 payments with the extras prorated: €2,333.33 gross and €1,841.82 net each.

Pick the setting that matches your contract. When you enter a monthly figure, the calculator multiplies it by the number of payments you chose.

What Is Taxed and What Is Not

  • Taxed and subject to contributions: base salary, pagas extra, overtime, bonuses, commission and most benefits in kind.
  • Exempt within limits: statutory dismissal compensation, meal vouchers up to the daily cap, and public transport passes up to the yearly cap.
  • Lower your IRPF further: children and dependants (family minimums), disability, pension plan contributions, and regional deductions such as rent for young people.

Spain Assumptions and Sources

  • Single taxpayer under 65, no children, permanent contract, one employer for the full year.
  • The result is the annual IRPF due. Monthly withholding (retención) is an estimate of it, so payslips can differ and the gap is settled in the yearly return.
  • Only the Madrid and Catalonia scales are built in; other regions use their own scales.
