Gross to Net Calculator

Gross to Net Calculator is a free website that turns a gross salary into take-home pay. It is built and edited by the Gross to Net Calculator Team.

What the Site Does

The site answers one question in many places: how much of my pay do I actually keep? It covers the United States paycheck in depth (federal income tax, Social Security, Medicare and state tax), every one of 32 states and cities with its own 2026 rules, and salary calculators for 46 countries and 7 Canadian provinces, each in its own currency.

Around the main calculator sit tools for related questions: hourly pay, overtime, bonuses, 401(k) contributions, net to gross, VAT and GST, and worked examples for common salaries. The homepage is available in 20 languages.

How We Build the Calculators

  • Official sources first. Tax rates, bands, caps and allowances come from tax authorities and social security agencies. Each calculator's code names its sources and the date they were checked.
  • Tested code. Every calculator has automated tests, including worked examples published by tax authorities where they exist, and runs those tests before any change ships.
  • Figures from the calculator. Numbers in the page text are produced by the same code that powers the calculator, so the article and the result never disagree.
  • Stated assumptions. Where a tax system is too detailed to model fully, the page says what is simplified.

The Editorial Guidelines describe the process in full.

What the Site Is Not

Gross to Net Calculator gives estimates, not tax, legal or financial advice. Your employer's payroll, your tax forms and your personal situation decide the real figures. Read the Disclaimer before relying on a result.

Free and Private

Every calculator is free, needs no account and runs in your browser. The numbers you type are not sent to us or stored. The site sets no cookies and runs no analytics or advertising today; the Privacy Policy explains the details.
